Integrated Design Process- Lecture

The New Value of Design – An integrated Design Process
David Kutsunai - Principal and Design Director of IA Interior Architects of Seattle
While listening to the presentation today I was thinking to myself how amazing it would be to have the chance to work under this knowledgeable and passionate man standing in front of me. The integrated process that he understands and employs is extremely effective and intriguing. To have experts of each sort in the design field, working coherently and simultaneously is genius. The process of integration while creating the four works he talked about truly inspired and reassured me that I am studying the right thing. Towards the end of his presentation when he talked about communication within the integration process and the idea of selling your ideas while selling designs brought forth what I want to do with a career in the Interior Design field. I want to be that woman that sells my ideas, my designs and my dreams with each project I work on.

Tessellation

This tessellation was created in Photoshop. My study for this project was the Victorian era. The tessellation is derived from three images I scanned from a Victorian book and four images I found on the internet from the Victorian period. I manipulated the images in many different ways, with many different layers. I worked with color and texture the most with each image. The color scheme I used was analogous. I used shades and tints of reds, oranges and yellows with accent colors of tan and brown. Although it took some time to figure out, I found Photoshop much more enjoyable to work with, compared to Adobe Illustrator.

Palouse Sketch with AI

This image of a farm house in the Palouse is the final sketch I created as part of preliminary work for our AI projects. The piece started as a picture taken by a local artist. It was my job to re-create the piece and make it my own, while also protraying the origional image. I feel that the piece I created has a lot of contrast worked into it. The different techniques that can be used to fulfill each task in AI really helps develop that contrast. I gained a lot of knowledge throughout the process work for this piece being it was my first time working with AI.
