This was my first sketch of the semester in ID197 Design Communications. The objective of the sketch was to create silhouettes of people. This practice came in useful when drawing a silhouette in our drafting project.
This sketch is a portrayal of an actual picture taken somewhere in the Palouse region. It was created with a Wacom Tablet in Adobe Illustrator. This sketch provided a learning experience for me as I had never worked with a Tablet before. I found it to be an enjoyable alternative to regular sketching.
My next sketch objective was to mimic a tessellation found in nature. I decided to use a pinecone, snake and honey comb as my study matter.
This sketch represents a cross hatch image of fruit. Shown in this sketch is the cross hatch of shape, form and shadow. This is one of my favorite sketches I completed this semester because it shows contrast and definition through a cluster of simple lines.
This negative space sketch was done with inspiration from an actual chair. Instead of drawing the object, as one usually does, I drew the white space. This sketch brought to my attention the alternative ways of sketching and observing.
The purpose behind sketch six was to select an interesting chair and observe multiple views of it. I included annotations in my sketch denoting specific fabrics and other materials constructing the chair. I also included necessary heights and widths. This sketch was another one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I felt it was extremely relevant to what I would be sketching working in the interior design industry.
The floor plan of my room is depicted on this napkin sketch. Along with the floor plan is a small detail drawing of my desk/vanity area. Annotations were included to specify where my bed, fridge and closets are located relative to each other. This sketch was fun because it was on a napkin, and one never knows when it will be necessary to whip out a quick sketch at a restaurant.
This two-point perspective sketch is of an interesting interior corner. Specific material was created using different line techniques. Specific values were used to establish shade and shadow. The contrast between values and the use of highlights creates the necessary appearance of the room.
The room value study consists of two sketches that differ from each other in weight. Each sketch is a depiction of the same space but the first sketch was completed using line weights only. The second was constructed showing contrast and value change throughout the space.
My last sketch for the ID 197 Design Communications course was a interpretation of a bathroom door hinge. This sketch was done on black paper with color pencils as my media. I created texture and depth by overlapping and contrast.
